New members are welcome to join the Friends of the Plainfield Public Library, a volunteer organization that promotes the goals, objectives, services and resources of the library.

The group, consisting of those interested in the library, promotes public awareness and informed community interest in the library and its resources. It also builds long-term support for the library facility and its programs.

The Friends hold used book sales and underwrite special library programs for patrons of all ages. Past book sales proceeds have enabled the library to purchase furniture for the childrens' area, buy fans which promote literacy and purchase "green" book bags.

Recent projects include a flea market, a cookbook sale, and a memorial garden.

Upcoming events will include the annual used book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 26 to 27. Collection for the book sale will be held Aug. 17 to 24.

The group will also host an Arts and Crafts Fair from  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24.
