Plainfield East Student Wins Second in State Poetry Contest
Raphael Mathis, a Plainfield East High School sophomore, won second place for his performance of poetry written by other authors at the "Poetry Out Loud" competition.
The competition was held in March and is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. Mathis had to memorize and perform three poems. He is a member of the school's speech team.
