Plainfield Junior Woman's Club Announces Scholarship Recipients

The women of the GFWC IL Plainfield Junior Woman’s Club (PJWC) have announced the first annual PJWC High School Scholarship recipients. PJWC is dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.  To honor the contribution of student volunteers, PJWC has established scholarships for a graduating, college bound female student. High School seniors listed below from each of the four area high schools, Plainfield North High School, Plainfield East High School, Plainfield Central High School and Plainfield South High School were awarded $250 for their involvement and active participation in school and community volunteer activities.

From Plainfield North High School, Chloe Dale will be attending Augustana College, and majoring in Journalism and Sociology.

From Plainfield East High School, Imani Hughes will be attending the University of Iowa.

From Plainfield Central High School, Shannon Sampson will be attending the University of Illinois to study Mechanical Engineering.

From Plainfield South High School, Ariel Brownlee will be attending the Illinois Institute of Technology and majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

Also, From Plainfield South High School, Courtnie Laws will be attending Joliet Junior College and then attending Southern Illinois University and to study nursing.

“We are extremely excited to be able to present scholarships to young ladies in our community who have displayed a commitment to community service and helping others,” stated Rebecca Otto, Plainfield Junior Woman’s Club Education Chairperson. “This group of young  ladies  has performed countless hours of community service while also achieving success in the classroom.  PJWC is honored to present our first annual scholarships to this amazing group of high school seniors,” continued Otto.  

The Plainfield Junior Woman’s Club (PJWC) is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) which is one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer service organizations. GFWC works locally through over 250 Junior clubs and has approximately 8,000 members in the United States. GFWC members support the arts, preserve natural resources, promote education in various sectors, encourage healthy lifestyles, stress civic involvement and work toward world peace and understanding.
