Welcome Home U.S. Navy Commander Greg Roach
Greg was born In New York and grew up on Long Island. He currently lives in Plainfield with his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Gregory & Kate. They are St. Mary Immaculate Plainfield parishioners.
He graduated from MacArthur H.S. in Levittown, NY in 1991. He earned a BS in Marine Engineering from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering at Georgia Tech.
He served in the Navy’s submarine force aboard the USS Asheville in Pearl Harbor, HI and taught at the Naval Academy. After leaving active duty in 2004 he began working for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Lisle, IL. Assignments at the Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant and the LaSalle Nuclear Power Plant as a resident inspector followed. He continued his Naval career as a Reservist at Great Lakes Naval Station.
Greg returned to active duty in January 2011 and deployed to Afghanistan in June 2011. He is returning home after serving as the Executive Officer of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kunar, Afghanistan for 9 months. He earned a Bronze Star for his meritorious service.
His family is excited to have him safely home, and he will soon rejoin the Nuclear Regulatory Commission at the Dresden Nuclear Power Plant.

Please join St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Operation Welcome You Home, Greg’s family, and friends in a welcome celebration on Wednesday, March 21. We’ll meet in the Meijers lot at Rt. 59 and 135th St. in Plainfield at 2:30pm for a briefing. Greg’s ETA is 3:00 pm. We will await our Hero with a flag line. After hugs we will form a motorcade to escort him to his home (a short distance away) where Operation Welcome You Home will do their photos/presentation.
