Will County Community Health Center Encourages Cervical Cancer Screenings

Regular screening with pap tests can detect cell changes before cancer develops. Cervical cancer was once the leading cause of death for women in the U.S. However, deaths have decreased largely due to the use of regular pap tests and pelvic exams. Regular testing is crucial in identifying cervical cancer or pre-cancerous conditions.

Free breast and cervical cancer screenings are offered to eligible Will County women through the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP), located at the Will County Community Health Center (1106 Neal Avenue in Joliet). Through, IBCCP, women can receive, at no charge to them, the following services:

  • A complete medical exam
  • A clinical breast exam or pap test
  • Referral for a free mammogram at a local hospital
  • Ongoing yearly exams & medical follow up with a healthcare provider

Will County women who are age 40 or older, who are uninsured or under-insured, and whose family income does not exceed 250 percent of federal poverty guidelines, are eligible.  Women over the age of 35 are eligible for cervical screenings only.

The Will County Community Health Center has been providing primary medical and dental care for the uninsured and underserved area residents since 1995.  As a Federally Qualified Health Center, discounts are offered and based on federally established guidelines.  You may be eligible for a discount if you are not covered by an insurance plan.
