Barbecue Restaurant Coming to Plainfield

Wild West BBQ will open in the former Salentino restaurant on Route 59.

Jay Pfeilsticker is a veteran businessman, but his latest venture is completely new to him.

After owning retail video stores throughout Chicago’s south suburbs, Pfeilsticker is getting ready to open his first restaurant.

Wild West BBQ will feature home-cooked barbecue, from brisket to ribs to pulled pork and smoked chicken. The restaurant is scheduled to open at 15420 S. Route 59, the former home of Salentino, which opened in 2010 and recently closed.

“I’m taking a big leap here,” Pfeilsticker said with a laugh.

But while he’s new to the restaurant business, Pfeilsticker is no stranger to the kitchen. The menu will feature his own recipes for sauces, rubs and more.

“Everything is fresh,” he said. “I make my own pastrami. I make everything from scratch.”

Everything, down to side dishes like macaroni and cheese and baked beans, will be made fresh in Wild West BBQ’s kitchen. Even the French fries will be fresh cut, not frozen, he said.

“I was even thinking about frying them in lard, which gives them really, really good flavor,” Pfeilsticker said.

Pfeilsticker plans to open as soon as possible.

“I’ve got a bit of remodeling to do,” he said, adding he’s planning a Wild West theme for the eatery.

The walls will be adorned with photos of real-life and silver screen cowboys, from John Wayne to Jesse James, along with horseshoes and replica firearms.

As renovations begin, Pfeilsticker said he will also be looking for help in the form of cooks, counter staff and waitstaff.

This is an interesting location with Baby Back Blues down the street!

It's not really "down the street." BBB is on Lily Cache and Rt. 30, this is on Rt 59 and Fort Beggs by Plainfield Central H.S. I do agree that there are several BBQ places in a short distance from each other. Plus consider all the other restaurants that have opened and closed in the past two years in our area, and I don't have much hope for it being able to sustain enough business. I'll try it when it opens, but BBQ is a very personal preference, and you have to have a big enough following that likes the way you do BBQ to make it. I have yet to find one in our area that does Ribs the way I like them. I drive to Bolingbrook and Nick's BBQ for my favorite Ribs now.

no different then meijer and jewel and walmart stores all w/in a few blocks from one another. Or fast food chains. Its good to have competition and I personally welcome this new restaurant. Variety is always nice.

Try PB Mulligans Restaurant in Prairie Bluff Golf Club for great BBQ. The ribs & brisket are top notch. Also pulled pork & smoked chicken. Scratch made sweet creamed corn is the best.

Baby Back blues might be down the street but it is in a horrible location and people rarely visit there in my opinion.

I look forward to a good BBQ place in the area as they are rare and hard to come by, if this place is good I won't have to go all the way to the Patio off Weber for my brisket fix.

Baby back blues is always busy. You can rarely get a seat. This place is better in side but BBQ is not that great.

What's the beef!? If you don't like the place don't go. At least give it a chance. Doesn't cost you anything if the business fails. I for one am looking forward to sampling all that is offered,

We are so excited about this, there are no BBQ places in the area that are good. Sorry, but we have tried Baby Back Blues a few times and no one in family ever liked it. We loved Fat Terry's from Shorewood, but they closed. We hope this new place is good. We can't wait for them to open!

The fact that this new bbq place will be fresh, not frozen and from scratch is an awesome alternative! BBB is okay, but they use a lot of artificial and processed ingredients. Good luck...can't wait to try ya - yee haaa!

The owner of baby back blues is there every night making sure his product is cooking right, when I say at night, I'm talking 11p-2a, dedication for quality.

Good luck. I think it takes a lot of gut's to try this at a time when so many of this type of food places have gone by the way side. I for one will try everything they have to offer a few times before I pass judgement on this man's cooking. I do a lot of BBQ myself so I think I know when something has been cooked the right way.

Kudos for a Plainfield restaurant opening without another Irish name, theme, menu or an Oriental place. I will certainly give them a try and wish them all the luck in the world that space in that plza has been a revolving door.We should have signed up Portillos also when we had the chance instead Shorwood welcomed them.

I am just happy its not another dentist office or pediatricians office. How many people in the area need their teeth cleaned? This town needs a place that can be on "Diners Drive-Ins & Dives"

I don't believe renovations have started yet, so the space is still vacant, but if you email me I can send you some contact info -- shannon.antinori@patch.com

Here is something that I would like to know: Will they be cooking inside of their kitchen or will they be cooking outside in their ally? I live near the BBB restaurant and I have to tell you, I CANNOT STAND the smell of the wood and nasty meat odors that burn outside almost every single night. It is awful and on a beautiful night, I cannot even open my windows because then my house has that smell, you know like being a bon fire all night, that stale smoke smell. I just cannot believe that the Village of Plainfield allows this kind of practice and that the PFD allows an open fire and food to cook outside all night UNATTENDED (have gone there in the middle of the night to complain and NOBODY IS THERE) I'm NOT saying that their food is bad, I used to eat it before they started cooking it outside, but won't go anymore now that it cooks in the ally!

Do not bother! Limited menu Beef,Ribs and pulled pork and whole chicken. No rib tips or pulled chicken. BBQ sauce is bland and no flavor. I tried the pulled pork and very lightly smoked. Had a weird taste in my mouth after eating. Really disappointed. I give them 1 year, Stick a fork in them they are done for. No pun intended. Baby back blues is much better. There is also another BBQ place one on Jefferson in Joliet that is great also. I forgot the name. 15 minutes from this one down 59 and east on Jefferson.

We won't be back. We tried two appetizers and a tri-tip sandwich.I asked the owner what he would recommend & he had to ask one of the other guys which was a red flag. We tried the poppers which looked as if they had been reheated & were lukewarm- 6 small ones stuffed with some meat mixture. McBrides does an awesome job on their homemade poppers and I'll stick with those. The BBQ nachos were served on a little larger than a salad sized plate with a handful of chips- may 1 and 1/3 cups, about 1/3 cup of BBQ pork, very little cheese, a few onions and tomatoes. Again, not really hot. The sandwich did have a warm bun but the meat barely covered the bun. French fries- about 1.5 cups and again not hot and looked reheated. The place had only one other table eating so no reason for the food not to be hot. After we placed the order, it was ready in less than 5 minutes so you can see why I feel things were reheated. There were two sauces-sweet and hot but a pepper type hot. No flavor for either and very runny and the not vinegar type if you are wondering. The bar is nice and bartender as well though I did not order a drink. The place was clean but the owner does need to wear a hair net if he is in the kitchen. The health department would not be happy. My son thought the place "sucked" and I agree. I'd recommend Back Back Blues in Plainfield or Lil Porgys in Crest Hill. Unless they up the quality of food it will not be around long. Sorry wish I could have given a good review.

Do not go here. My son got the hot dog, it was kid of greyish with a stale bun. The pork was definately microwaved and gross. My hubby got the ribs and they were ping underneath the sauce. I am highly surprised we didn't all get sick. I am sure they will be closed soon.

For all of you bbq rookies here. When you walk into a place for the first time look for how many gold pigs there are. Yeah, I mean bbq trophies with a gold pig on top, medals, awards etc...Almost all good bbq joints are more than proud of their winnings as they should be. Remember, its all about the golden pig. No trophys, awards or medals hanging around ought to be a sign. And dont order a hot dog at a bbq joint. Cmon...

Yeah..well my 4 year old doesn't eat BBQ yet..so hot dog was the only option for him. Thought it would be more like a sit down restaurant with a larger menu.Still doesn't excuse downright nasty food.

The atmosphere was nice nice and very clean. However, when you walk in it is a bit confusing. We thought we were suppose to sit down and be served. We were then instructed by the nice bartender that we had to go to the back of the restaurant to order. It was a bit odd.

The menu is very limited and was not on-line for us to view ahead of time.

My take on the food was that it was average at best. My buddy and I had the brisket, mac and cheese, chili, slaw and 1/2 chicken.

First of all I am not a BBQ snob at all. The brisket was good/average the flavor was good but dry. The mac and cheese was awful. It was very dry and I think it had sat in the warmer too long. Aside from that it had absolutely no flavor. The chili with brisket meat was the star of the meal. (That's not saying much). The chicken was about average. My favorite was the slaw it had wonderful flavor.

Needless to say I will more than likely not go back. Sadly, if it doesn't improve I think it will be gone in less than 6 months.

I too miss Fat Terry's in Shorewood. I've been to BBB a few times but found the meat dry and I'm not fond of how they put the sauce on. For now if I have a craving I drive to Smokys BBQ on Jefferson in Joliet. They have a full menu and nice atmosphere if you want to eat in. The sauce was very flavorful and the meat was tender.

Note to self, I should have read the articles about how this guy has no experience in the BBQ arena. Down right gross. Go back to the video business.
