How Early is Too Early for Christmas Shopping?
It used to be Black Friday was for the earliest of early shoppers. Not anymore. Look around. The stores are ready now.
Look around the Chicago area and you'll see all the signs: The early birds no longer wait until Black Friday to do their Christmas shopping.
This year, Black Friday is on Nov. 23, but big retailers and mail-order companies are starting well in advance. Amazon, for example, is beginning its Black Friday on Nov. 14.
Crazy or crazy smart?
Just how early is too early to shop for Christmas 2012 gifts? Take our poll.

All that is going on is there companies are trying to draw money into their stores earlier and earlier, so their last quarter shows a larger profit. Why do you think you have not seen the Mcrib yet? McDonald's is waiting until December to boost their end of year profits...just like every other company these days.

With three little kids I have to shop best price for toys. I sign up for alerts via email, texts and Twitter from ToysRUs, Amazon, Target, etc, to get a daily deal. If it's something they asked for or would like, I buy it then. I have been saving all year long for Christmas so it's not hitting my credit card and sitting there.

Same here -- I pick things up year round and most of my shopping is done before November. It makes sense for us to buy things when we see a great deal and just wrap it up and have it ready for December. That said, we are pretty reasonable with our budget and what our kids get. We are not an "everything on their list" family.

I won't start until after my wife's birthday in late October. As I explained to her once, I have to take inventory of what she got for her birthday, before I can do any Christmas shopping for her.
