CVS Bandit, 16, Used BB Gun to Get OxyContin Fix: Cops

Joliet police say the teen presented the pharmacy with a threatening note and then went into the store's rest room to use the drug.

A teenager needing an OxyContin fix and wielding a BB gun forced a CVS pharmacy employee to give him the drug and then locked himself in the store's rest room, Joliet police say.

The suspect, described as a 16-year-old white male, entered the store at Caton Farm and Drauden roads at about 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, Cmdr. Al Roechner said. He went directly to the pharmacy counter and presented the employee with a note that read, "Don't do anything stupid. I have a gun. Give me all your OxyContin and 30-gauge needles."

"He needed a fix, and he was going to get one," Roechner said.

The police were called about a "robbery in progress," and found the teen inside the rest room, Roechner said. He had to be coaxed from the room, and police recovered the BB gun from inside, he said.

No one was injured and no shots fired. The teen was charged with aggravated robbery, rather than armed robbery, because the weapon used was not a real gun, Roechner said.

OxyContin, a retail name for the drug oxycodone, is a narcotic pain reliever that's available only through prescription. When used for recreational purposes, the taker gets a high that's similar to heroin, experts say.

Seriously?! This kid was plain old STUPID. If you're going to 'rob' a place, you don't stay in the vicinity upon getting what you want. Thank GOD no one was injured and he was apprehended. I hope (and pray) this kid gets the help he needs. He has totally ruined his life - it is a total shame.

We need to be cautious with generalizations. The boy needs help but will get through this and has a future he can turn around. Teens who believe their "life is ruined" due to an act of stupidity and fallibility will often attempt to take their life - He needs to pay the legal price and do the hard work to overcome his narcotic addiction, but he can still do anything he wants with his life and it holds the ssame promises and potential as the school valedictorian (granted has an uphill battle) .

So you are telling me we should feel sorry for him? What if he had a real gun...would you still feel the same way? What if some senior citizen was waiting for his prescription and had a heart attack over this?
Do you know this 'child'? I would be shocked if this is a first crime. Lack of personal responsibility is rampant in our schools so let's make sure it isn;t missing from the legal system. He presented a 'gun' and a note. They should have charged him with armed robbery- BB or not. Send him ti jail and let him do his time. And IF he wants to get off drugs, give him help. If the addict doesn't want to be cured no amount of money or sympathy is going to make it so.

it is more than a narcotic addition and he has been in trouble with the law since he was an adolescent. Yes, he needs help as does his entire family - it is yet another tragedy brought on upon doing what is known to be wrong instead of working to do what is right. Prayers for the whole family and the law to finally do what they should have done many times over.

generalization? not sure whose post you are referring to. Yes, he does need help as does his whole family. It is more than a narcotic addition. Unlikely to be valedictorian I believe he no longer attends school.

Was he addicted to the OXYCODINE or Herroin? How did this happen to a 16 year old.
Where are kids this age getting it in the volume to become that addicted? How are they funding and hiding it?

Most of them are getting it from their parents medicine cabinets, at first anyway.

Perhaps both. Years of living in a negative environment, lack of direction or positive encouragement. Excuses and second chances. Perhaps dealing?

Mark, he was addicted to heroin, he just got out of re-hab 4 days prior, this kid obviously has problems, all we can do is pray for him to get the help he needs.

Is - addictions once established are for always. Re-hap though promising will most often times not work on heroin due to the characteristics of the drug these days. Kid is troubled and riddled with problems - he and his entire family need counseling. Prayers to all that they get the help and support and once and for suffer the consequences of their actions.

I know the kid myself. He's a good person with a hard time to overcome an addiction he's been fighting for such a long time. Kids make mistakes he could never harm a fly. Don't go making accusations just being judgement and ignorant to his situation.

Very true, people do not need to make a judgement, just because he did what he did, doesn't give you the right to make a judgement on someone you don't even know, but now a days people like to complain more then they like to give a compliment!!

As do I. All people are good, it is how they choose to live their lives that are bad. Decisions cause a person to go in a direction they could easily prevent or avoid by choosing to do what they know is right. Yes, he has been fighting for quite sometime, however, the addiction to anything is a secondary action. That is why it is difficult to overcome them. In order to be free and live freely and in freedom one must be able to live in absolute truth within themselves and others in addition to being able to forgive themselves and others around them. Hate and anger cause destruction. All textbook actions resulting in a dysfunctional family. Which most families have their fair share of dysfunction. Some put the FUN in it and others take it out. Most don't know how to forgive. As for hurting a fly - well - just lets say more like ducks. He did save a life from drowning this past summer which I prayed would be a turning point for him, for him to realize the value of life and that euphoric feeling you get from doing good and how good it makes you feel that it would have stayed with him to put the shovel down and start rising above the whole he has dug for himself.

Nameless, I understand what you are saying that he would not harm a fly if he was sober but under the infulance of drugs and needing a fix he is capable of doing anything, as clearly seen in his behavior. Who know what he would have done if the pharmacy refused to give him the drugs, just because it was a BB does not mean he was incapable of hurting someone seriously. He needs help yes that is ture but he also need to pay for his crime, the easier the courts go on him the more likely he will do it agian, next tiem it might be a real gun.

I know this kid, he used to go to my highschool. He's a good person, cool as hell. He's currently going through a rough time in his life obviously, and people make mistakes all the time. And some people cannot control something that theyre addicted to, they have to have it. Even though this kid messed up, ill still keep him in my prayers.

The person who did this happens to be my boyfriend. I know him more than all you judgemental people. He is going through something that is taking over his normal, sweet, self. He has the biggest heart in the world and I couldn't even believe he did this. This isn't who he is, this was his addiction. Addiction is like breathing and you people don't understand what someone will do in order to get something you are craving. I know in my heart he can change and I know that he will change. I hope everyone doesn't judge him on this mistake because everyone has flaws. He is a good person and I love him more than anything. I will keep supporting him through all of this and I hope you all will too.
