DUI Arrest Quashed for Romeoville Football Coach

Jeff Kuna has pleaded guilty to speeding and has been sentenced to four month's court supervision, $200 fine.

A Kendall County judge granted a coach’s motion to quash a February arrest for drunken driving.

An attorney for the Spartans head football coach Jeff Kuna said Friday that officers did not have probable cause to make the arrest based on the evidence, including the results of a field sobriety test.

Kuna, a Plainfield resident, pleaded guilty to a charge of speeding, admitting to driving 68 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Despite an objection from a Kendall County prosecutor, who cited Kuna’s prior history of a 2002 driving-under-the-influence conviction and a 2001 conviction for speeding, Judge Tim McCann agreed to sentence Kuna to four month’s court supervision.

Kuna was also ordered to pay a $200 fine and attend traffic school.

Following the Feb. 20 arrest, Kuna, who is also a physical education teacher, was reportedly removed from teaching driver’s education classes. Citing personnel confidentiality issues, Community Relations Director Larry Randa declined to comment on Kuna’s status with the district.
