Evening Luminary Event Honors Plainfield's Dead

Overman-Jones has held the memorial service for the last 12 years; luminaries are lit for Plainfield residents who have died in the past year.

An outdoor luminary will be lit Wednesday night in honor of every Plainfield person who died over the past year in a special remembrance program held at the .

The 12th Annual Memorial Luminary Program will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service conducted by the Rev. Melissa Hood at 6 p.m. Hood is the former pastor of of Plainfield and currently helms the Community United Methodist Church of Naperville.

Anyone whose funeral services were handled by Overman-Jones will be recognized, as will those people whose families have contacted the funeral home and asked for them to be included. The funeral home is at 15219 S. Joliet Road, off of Route 59.

Some families personalize and decorate their family member's luminary bag with photographs, poems or letters. Bags are picked up in advance or can be decorated at the funeral home, but must be completed by 1 p.m. today.

Families are also invited to light the candle in their family member's bag beginning at 4:30 p.m., with all candles being lit by 5 p.m.

Refreshments be provided throughout the evening.
