Former Illinois Governor George Ryan Released From Prison

Ryan was sent to a halfway house early Wednesday morning, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Just hours after his release from prison, former Gov. George Ryan, 79, was released from a halfway house and sent to his home in Kankakee, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Ryan is under house arrest but reportedly will not have to wear an electric monitor. He was allowed to bypass the halfway house due to his age, according to his attorney, former Gov. Jim Thompson.

Illinois residents can no longer say there are two former governors in prison.

George Ryan arrived at a halfway house on Chicago’s west side early Wednesday morning after being released from an Indiana federal prison, the Chicago Tribune reports.

WMAQ-TV reports Ryan was silent and dressed in a suit and tie as he entered the halfway house. He is not allowed to speak to the media until he leaves the home in July.

The 78-year-old spent more than five years in prison for federal corruption charges after leaving the governor’s office.

Ryan requested early release from prison in 2010, partially because his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer. A judge denied his request, but he was allowed to be by her side when she passed away in January of 2011.

Ryan isn't the first governor to be convicted on corruption charges. Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is currently serving a 14 year sentence for corruption while in office.

Three other Illinois governors who belong in prison would be Jim Thompson who as a member of the 911 Commission committed high treason by covering up the true details of that event. And then there’s Jim Edgar who is very much responsible for the current pension mess and yet always he seems to escape scrutiny while collecting his multi six figure payout. Our current governor is also a traitor for encouraging more legal and illegal immigration despite the fact that this state and country no longer have room for more inhabitants. Our infrastructure can’t handle any more stress. It’s already maxed out, any more pressure is suicide. This country in the past executed traitors. There’s lots of out of work union carpenters whom I’m sure would donate their time to build the gallows

Here Here! Do the crime...do the time. Any politician found to be corrupt should be shot as a traitor!

Well, Zaney, that is the problem. Maybe if we cared more we wouldn't continue to elect and re-elect politicians who only care about themselves.

as long as we subsidize the birth of welfare children who are sure to be future democrats we will always have to put up with this mess we are in. We cant march against the current system to the white house or stage protests because we all have jobs to go to so we can make money to pay the higher taxes required to pay the hospital bills and expanded classrooms with bilingual teachers for all the illegals in this country with many more illegals sure to come...pretty disgusting.
