A local man went to the hospital with a headache and high blood pressure, but apparently didn't think they had enough drugs there for him, police said.

Gregory Heintz, 35, got caught allegedly shooting cocaine in the bathroom of his Provena St. Joseph Medical Center hospital room. Heintz was arrested upon his release from the hospital Tuesday evening and was booked into the Will County jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Heintz, who reportedly gave the police home addresses in both Plainfield and Romeoville, stopped by the St. Joe's emergency room on Sept. 12. He complained of headaches and high blood pressure and was admitted to the hospital.

Two nights later, a man identified only as "George" arrived to pay Heintz a visit, police said.

Soon after George showed up, Heintz asked a nurse to unhook him from the hospital monitors so he could go to the bathroom, police said.

Once she had Heintz unhooked, the nurse went back to her desk, police said. George then ran out of the hospital room and, presumably, the hospital itself.

Moments later the nurse heard Heintz having a "hard time" in the bathroom, police said. She also reportedly heard heavy breathing.

Concerned that something might be amiss in the bathroom, the nurse called hospital security.

Security gained access to the bathroom and saw a hypodermic needle in the sink, not to mention the small amount of cocaine also in the bathroom, police said.

Heintz apparently thought the cocaine was heroin, police said, and told the security guards he had shot some. He also reportedly told the guards he had taken some fentanyl, a narcotic pain-killer.

The police left Heintz at the hospital until he was released from care about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was then arrested and carted off to the jail.
