Man Dead Following Route 59 Cycle-Truck Crash

Plainfield police say they do not know what caused a Shorewood man to lose control of his pickup truck and roll into oncoming traffic, killing a motorcycle driver.

A Naperville motorcycle driver was killed Saturday afternoon after being struck by an out-of-control pickup truck that crossed a Route 59 median and rolled into oncoming traffic, said.

Route 59 was closed for hours between 135th Street and 143rd Street as police reconstructed the accident in which George A. Weikum, 58, was hit while driving his 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Route 59, just north of Joseph Street, according to a police report issued Saturday night.

Police did not spectulate on what may have caused David C. Dietrich, 32, of Shorewood, to lose control of his 2005 Ford pickup at about 4:30 p.m. Dietrich's truck crossed the center median, rolled over and struck Weikum.
