Huge Day Care Center Gets Village OK

Kiddie Academy, which can handle a maximum of 159 children, plans to open this fall.

A 10,000-square-foot child care center, large enough to accommodate nearly 160 children, won site plan approval Monday from the Plainfield Village Board.

Tonight, the Kiddie Academy preschool/day care, which is to be built on Route 59, just north of Meijer and Office Max, will go before the Plainfield Plan Commission for special use permit and final plat consideration. Among the topics for discussion will be a fenced-in playground area.

Depending on the commission’s recommendation, the village board could approve those documents on March 6. According to its Web site, the new facility plans to be open by fall.

The Kiddie Academy is a national chain based in Maryland, with more than 100 franchise preschool/day care facilities in 22 states. In Illinois, there are centers in Batavia, Carpentersville and Streamwood and a fourth to open in Bolingbrook this spring.

According to documents provided to the village, the center will have 19 teachers in addition to the director, owner and part-time food service employee. Most of the children will arrive between 7 and 9 a.m. and most will be picked up between 3 and 4:30 p.m.

The company describes itself as a nursery school that provides early childhood education. It offers infant, toddler and preschool care as well as school age and summer camp programs.

Information on program costs was not available.

On 59 just north of Meijer and Office Max? Are they tearing down fast food row? Probably not a bad idea actually but...

There are a number of 'out lots' at the Meijer Corner, recent additions are a Doctors Office and Auto Repair/Lube business, both which are under construction. That said, it seems an expensive location for a child care center, why pay for a retail location? Maybe it's going in on 135th street, which would make sense because thousands of parents pass that way on the way to I-55 via either Weber or Essington.

Right, those businesses are west of Meijer & Office Max. The immediate care is finished & open for business. I see the map now, it's SOUTH of Meijer & Office Max.
