No Drain Drama in Plainfield: Ottawa Street Pool Opens Saturday
Ottawa Street Pool is not among thousands across the country that won't be opening on time because of unsafe drain covers.
Fear not, unlike other places, dreams of splashing at on Saturday's opening day won’t be going down the drain.
Unlike thousands of pools around the country, which use drain covers that were just recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Plainfield's are just fine.
“Nope,” said Marianne Ryan, spokeswoman. “Our drain covers are not on the recall list – we are good to go for opening day this Saturday.”

Pool operators were irked that the drains they were required to install over the past few years to prevent drowning now turn out to be the very threat they were supposed to prevent.
But that’s somebody else’s problem. All we have to worry about is finding our goggles and avoiding rainy weather forecasts. Oh, and facing that bathing suit in the mirror. Sunglasses won’t help much with that.
The pool opens 1 p.m. Saturday. Daily admission is $2 for residents, $4 for nonresidents. You have one more week, until June 10, to get a 30 percent discount on a season pass.
As for the weather, temps on Saturday are expected to top out at 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, based in Romeoville. But there's also a 30 percent chance of rain.
