Pick a Treat, Plainfield: What's Your Must-Have Halloween Candy?

Take our Patch poll and pick your No. 1 treat.

I have a confession to make. Candy corn is my least favorite sweet of all time. I haven't had one in more than a decade.

It might even rank in my all-time most hated foods of all time, if I ever actually sat down and devised such a list.

This makes me an odd ball, I'm sure.

I don't really know what is it, either, that makes that particular confection so repellant. I love candy. Virtually all other kinds of it. My favorites are the really sugary ones, like Sweet Tarts and Smarties (which I think is just pressed sugar made in a way similar to how Superman squeezed a coal into a diamond in Superman 3).

October is the time of the year to spend way too much time thinking about these sweet treats. Parents will be sending their little ones off costumes to collect the confections. Those who stay home will hand out packages of edible joy to all the monsters, goblins and fairy princesses who stop by.

In the midst of all this ghoulish chaos, there's probably at least one candy you'll sneak away for yourself. That one favorite morsel you must have.

Take our Patch poll below.

Back in the late 60s and early 70s, Mr. and Mrs. Weinhold lived at the corner of Renwick Rd. and Frederick St. They'd invite you inside, and on a tray they had the most beautiful (to the eyes of a pre-pubecent child) full-sized Milky Ways, 3 Musketeers, and Snickers bars. You were told, with a smile, you could only take one, but I know many of us neighborhood kids would always try to figure out how we could go back to the Weinholds without getting noticed, swapping costumes and such. Those big ol' candy bars were heaven!
