Plainfield in NY Times Story on Non-English Speaking Students
The number of "English-language learners" in Plainfield School District 202 has tripled since 2005, according to the article.
Suburban Chicago schools can't keep up with the need for bilingual programs prompted by the huge increase in non-English-speaking students, according to an article in the new York Times.
The article, in particular, cites Plainfield School District 202, where "English-language learners" have tripled from 674 in 2005 to nearly 2,100 in 2011.
It also quotes Plainfield resident Carmen Avalos, whose children's grades improved once they started taking classes in a bilingual program
“For me, the program is complete because when my daughter goes to the Spanish classroom, she is taught the same” material as the English-speaking students, Avalos said.

Kudos to the likes of Daily,Durban, Madigan.
It's going to get worse, because other states are making it hard for illegals.

Only in the USA can English speaking people have to pay to learn a foreign language, yet foreigners/illegals learn English for free (other people foot the bill). Many kids in our school get ESL when they speak better English than most "Americans". Teach your children the language, and you just may learn it yourself!

Here's a novel idea....instead of all these bilingual classes (math, science, etc) let's just have English classes. All day, every day until you are proficient in English. Then you can integrate into mainstream classrooms and get the same education as every other english speaking American.

If people are coming here because it is such a great country then they could at minimum learn the english languge and accept our customs as an American. When you leave your country for a better life in the USA, then your heart shjoudl be long to America and not other countries. That means when the National anthem is played, stand up, put your hand on your heart and thank God or your spiritiual being of choice that you are living here and have the freedoms that were brought to you by our past and present soldiers.

Has everybody on this comment stream truly forgotten what it is that makes this such a beautiful country?? It's the different cultures, the different colors, the different languages. There is nothing wrong with school-age students of different cultures coming to America to learn different subjects in their own language. They will learn English as well as acquiring all the other knowledge that will make continue to make this a great country. Just because someone does not know the English language, does not mean they should not be allowed to acquire other knowledge. Knowledge that can later be used to contribute to this wonderful country. Mario: As for your heart belonging to America, if you are an immigrant, you will know that you come to this great country, but your roots are your roots. Again, that is part of what makes this country so beautiful.

There is plenty wrong with school aged children coming to America to learn different subjects in their own language! Especially when this is done at the expense of hard earned tax dollars paid by legal US citizens. Do you think that it would be reasoanble for you to pick up and move to another country and demand that they teach your children in English?

Actually when you go to other countries they will offer these free service to noncitizen of that county. Your child can even go to college in Finland get a free education, books and health care all paid for by the government. Sweden last year just started charging noncitizen for a college education but you can be in a college exchange program for free and after one year you are covered with health insurance. Since when has it become morally acceptable to start taking our racial attitudes out on children. Not every non american is illegal. I have a friend who's family came over from Poland 40 years ago. She was tought in our elementary school with the aid of a school district polish translater. She was slowly exposed to our language and in return performed very well in school. When I hear of her stories about Poland I am always thankful that I live in the US. How would you like to go visit family and have to bring a suitcase full of toliet paper back for them - this was a luxury. Remember at sometime our families traveled from other countries to come to America. They had to adapt and learn a new language. Would so many people be up in the air if we were teaching something other than Spanish say Italian, Polish, or French. I don't think so. Also if we got rid of all the illegals whos going to replace them jobwise? We would be demanding more pay which in return we would end up paying more for everything including food.

And look how well that has worked out for those countries.... Frankly, if the best comparison you can throw at me is Finland you are certainly reaching.
It's not a matter of 'morally acceptable' or not. It's a matter of LAW that if someone is in this country illegally (undocumented is ILLEGAL) , they are breaking the law. They should not be rewarded for it. It's not a matter of racial attitude. You have not a clue what color I am or where I might be from- so to surmise that is in itself telling.
As for the illegals being deported and there being no one to replace them....are you joking?
