Plainfield OKs Plans for Gas Station, Car Wash

In about a decade, a parcel of property at 25491 W. 119th Street, near the intersection of 119th and Route 30, could become home to a fuel station and car wash.

Currently, the site is home to a residence and a facility that manufactures sheds and picnic tables.

On Monday, trustees voted in favor of annexing the property into the village, along with rezoning it for commercial use. The property received approval for pre-annexation in August.

A nearby parcel, known as the Sabadosh property, was also annexed into the village Monday so that the future gas station site would be contiguous to the village.

The property owners, Peter and Gaylene Metrou, are no strangers to small business. The couple owns Grandma's Table Family Restaurant in Montgomery.

While the rezoning and annexation were readily approved by village board members Monday night, the Metrous’ request for a special use permit for a future gas station/car wash and drive-thru did face some opposition as trustees Jim Racich and Paul Fay voted no. With fellow trustee Garrett Peck absent, Mayor Mike Collins was required to vote, casting the fourth “yes” vote needed to approve the measure.

In August, attorney Mike Martin, who represents the Metrous, said he “can’t imagine it being any less than 10 years” before the gas station would become a reality.
