Send Love to Troops with ‘Operation Write Home’ Event

Help create cards and letters of support at the Plainfield American Legion post on Sept. 29.

Two years ago, Plainfield volunteers created more than 1,000 greeting cards for U.S. servicemen and women stationed overseas.

This year, Shannon Seneczko is upping the ante.

The teacher turned stay-at-home mom is inviting community members ages 16 and older to participate in an event to make 1,200 cards for Operation Write Home.

“We just need lots of help,” said Seneczko, who will host the card-making event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the American Legion Marne Post at Renwick and River roads in Plainfield.

Seneczko, a Stampin’ Up vendor, will provide all the supplies, and the completed cards will be shipped to Operation Write Home to be sent to active-duty American heroes.

And you don’t have to be artistically gifted to help, Seneczko said.

“We can find a job for you whether you’re crafty or not,” she said.

Card-making volunteers won’t go home hungry. Papa Murphy’s of Plainfield will return to this year’s event with a pizza taste-testing station, Seneczko said.

Those who can’t make it to the Sept. 29 event but still want to help can make donations toward the cost of supplies by contacting Seneczko at msseneczko@att.net or 815-609-3718.
