This is directed at the cartoonist..............Your obviously a Democrat............How many wives have you had???.........Finally somone with inteligence comes along and people look for dirt............This country is going to hell in a handbasket.........too many people stirring the pot in Washington...........I don't think anybody in this country knows what the KISS rule is
I've been divorced and re-married. There it's out in the open. Is there some desire to make a joke of me, too? Or ... does it make me less trustworthy?
I make no judgment about anyone who has been divorced. I do find Newt Gingrich's ethics questionable on many fronts, however, and many of Gingrich's fellow Republicans do as well.
Mr. Ingwerson finds Newts ethics questionable on many fronts. Newt Gingrich was cleared of any and all ethics charges. Innocent until found guilty....or guilty, even after all charges are cleared. And you should not speak for Newt's fellow Republicans. When Gennifer Flowers and Bill Clinton came up, the press backed Bill Clinton and ATTACKED Gennifer Flowers. The attacks by the Liberal Media will backfire. The liberal media is out to destroy anyone who does not agree with them.
Oh....one more thing about the liberal media.....they actually brought Newt the victory in South Carolina by their CNN debate where the first question is not about jobs, the economy, the Keystone pipeline, the 1.2 trillion dollar debt ceinilng increase.....no, a personal question for Newt about something that happened 15 plus years ago. And George Stephanoplois hits a real national concern with his hypothetical question regarding states and contraception. What the heck is the liberal media thinking? Why was Obama not questioned about Bill Ayers or Reverend Wright? What about his college grades, transcripts, and laona pplications....it is SO OBVIOUS to everyone. The constitution guarantees a "FREE PRESS" not a "FAIR PRESS".
William-expound on your statement and enlighten us as to your reasoning. Is Dr Paul too straight of a shooter to an American populace that prefers to be lied to?
His foreign policy includes getting Israel off of the US "Foreign Aid" gravy train and ending the practice of Israel and AIPAC calling the shots in our MidEast foreign policy-which includes attacking Iraq so they wouldn't have to. Wait until we attack Iran and US blood is spilled to prevent the Israelis from having to do their own dirty work.
If you look through the cartoon archives here, you'll see that I've done a number of Obama cartoons. I think all politicians, regardless of their party affiliation, are fair game when it comes to finding humor in their words and actions.
It's also anti-religion. What if someone were Mormon, or Muslim, or Christian. Is that just another way to throw both Gingrich AND Romney into one cartoon?.......The Patch should be ashamed.
This cartoon was not meant to be "anti-religion." It was meant, in part, to poke fun at an issue that many Republicans have discussed openly — that there is concern within the party that Gingrich and Romney may be unelectable because of how they are perceived by a large segment of Republican/conservative voters. Personally, I don't think religion should be a factor in a candidate's electability.
Newt deserves to be criticized in this way because he was ardently anti-Clinton when Clinton's affair came to light, but Newt was cheating on his own wife the whole time. He is a hypocrite. This isn't about religion or being Republican AT ALL.
Funny cartoon! I'm not sure how people are perceiving this as anti-religious (since that makes no sense), but more importantly, why are people on this thread NOT questioning Newt's ethics? Yeah the man has been married 3 times...not that big of a deal right? Right. Now how about when these marriages are the direct result of multiple affairs while his current wife is sick/dying of cancer? Tell me how great of a guy he is then and that you trust his judgement leading a country....
@Chuck, I got the joke and actually laughed out loud. I've also laughed at your Obama cartoons. Political cartoons aren't about "sides." If you're that easily offended by the satire of a political cartoon, it's probably best to just not read them. Or you can lighten up and laugh at your own guy. Since they're ALL good material for Chuck, he'll probably satirize someone you can't stand real soon. :)
Is someone drinking the kool-aid. There seems to be a lot of anger lately from many of the bloggers lately, especially when it comes to politics and/or religion. Some people need to get a life. These are cartoons. Cartoons poke fun at people and things. They are done to make you laugh and sometimes make you think. Chuck's cartoons have poked fun at candidates I support and at issues dear to my heart. Do I hate the guy because of that. NO, he is just doing what he is good at and political cartoons have been a part of the American culture since the pilgrims landed here many moons ago.
One last comment. William, you say Ron Paul cannot win. Either you don't agree in the American Dream that most parents tell their children as they are growing up "This is America and you can be anything you want to be if you try hard enough" or you know for a fact that Ron Paul does not have an American birth certificate. Which is it?
I agree there is too much hatred - on this site and elsewhere. It's fueled by blogs, pundits, and talk radio on BOTH sides. People need to lighten up, have a sense of humor, and not be so bitter. Although I must say it makes for entertaining reading!
Ron Paul IS my choice...........but he will get us shot up with his foriegn policies, these countries who want us burned off the face of the earth don't play around unfortunately......that is why he probably won't be elected.........He is a straight shooter and he can fix a lot of the problems we have in this country........As for Newt personal attacks are inaproppriate even if they are in the form of a cartoon.
his foreign policy includes leaving many countries that we don't belong in(US army in Germany?Japan?Iceland?MidEast to guard Israelis?) and cutting off the foreign aid to countries that don't need it- how will that get us "shot up"
William, are you saying personal attacks against Newt are inappropriate, or personal attacks against any politician is inappropriate, or personal attacks against anyone or anything are inappropriate?
@Mike, I agree on all points. Some days the comments are almost as funny as the cartoons. No offense to the artist. ;)
@William, the definition of a political cartoon from wikipedia is:
"An editorial cartoon, also known as a political cartoon, is an illustration containing a commentary that usually relates to current events or personalities. They typically combine artistic skill, hyperbole and biting humour in order to question authority and draw attention to corruption and other social ills." That's exactly what this cartoon is doing. It's not personally attacking Newt.
As for Ron Paul, he has some interesting ideas, but the Republicans will never give him the nomination because of his foreign policies. You can't blame anyone but the Repubs voting in the primaries for that. Well, I guess you can blame the party officials who won't do anything to support him.
The cartoon is attacking Gingriches personal life..........It is innapropriate to attack anybodies personal life in that way it doesn't matter WHO they are.
It's a matter of perception. I did not see it as an attack on Gingrich. Just a humorous way of stating the facts that have been reported in the press over the years. How do you see that as inappropriate. Are you also saying that no matter what someone does in the personal life, it should be kept from the general public. Sort of like Penn State tried to do recently. Hide the facts and no one will get hurt. Hmmmm....
It is inaproppriate to attack a man just because he is divorced..........I'm sure he has his regrets............as long as he was not abusive toward his family he should be at peace with himself..........I don't think you should hide anything that is abusive toward anyone or criminal in nature.............I'm just saying let the man be at peace with his family...........you haven't seen anybody come forward with any allegations..........until you do there should not be any attacks on how many wives a man has had............Just ask the Mormons about wives. Now that would be a conversation.........ooooh boy did I just go there
When do we begin laughing at fat people? Gays? Crippled? Ugly? Under-endowed? Over-endowed? Poor? Homeless? Political satire on the "issues" is appropriate. On personal traits is unacceptable unless it is a "rag" news-BLOG. Too bad this is what America is evolving into. Leave the personal crap out and talk the issues. That is where this comic lost everyone with half of a brain...
The issue is Newt claims to be all for family values and yet he's divorced three times and cheated on at least one of his wives. He also allegedly filed for divorce from his first wife while she was in the hospital undergoing treatment for cancer. Talk about a stand-up guy.
Honestly, I don't give a rat's patooie about any of that. I think it makes him a rotten man and despicable husband, but it's personal and I'm not sure if it really would affect his ability to be President. Having said that, when he starts touting himself as a family values candidate and decrying democrats for the moral decline in this country, then I'm going to call him a hypocrite and laugh at cartoon's lampooning him for it.
We already laugh at all of the above. I'm not sure I know you but you seem to know me very well. I get laughed at because i'm fat, ugly, gay, crippled, under-endowed in some areas and over-endowed in others. I'm also an atheist, christian, jew, protestant and whatever other religion there is out there. I'm an American and proud of it. Go ahead an laugh all you want. I can take it. Not as sensitive as some of the other, apparently FOREIGNERS, that frequent this site, and are perfect in every way. Nope we don't laugh at them.
Just because someone is sick doesn't mean they can't file for divorce.........Do you even know the details?..........It may have been consentual for all you know.........Leave the mans personal life out of it........It has nothing to do with his leadership ability
Here is the deal. The best thing about America is that you can say what you want without reservations with a very few exceptions, and the worst part about America is that so can everyone else, including those who disagree with YOU!
So the whether or not the cartoon is your cup of tea or not is not relevant here, what is relevant is the right of the artist to print it. I agree that personal issues should not be used to portray politicians, athletes or other celebrities but that is what we have come down to, a nation of voyeurs who live off the insignificant faults of others.
It should not matter how many times Newt was married, what we should be concerned with is what kind of president he would make and how he would fix the problems we face as a nation. But that would mean that politicians would have to actually tell us what their plan is and as long as we feed off of gossip rather than substance they are perfectly happy ducking the real questions.
Politics has become the ultimate reality show. So maybe what we should do is put all of them on an island and then vote them off one by one until we have a winner. It can't be any worse than what we are already doing. Or maybe we should just leave them all on the island and put Gilligan in charge!
Robyn, even though Brian felt it was necessary to delete your last post you made a good point. At this point in time, I'm looking for a candidate who can get the job done. Granted, it would be nice if we found that one person who was an ideal spouse, parent, highly moral, great genes, intelligence, communicator, etc, etc. but anyone that thinks that person exist by the time they are eligible to run for an elective office is fooling themselves. I want someone who has the skills to get us out of the financial mess our country is in today. Forget their personal background. If they have the skills to run this country, save it from itself, and not abuse the constitution while doing so, I'm for that candidate. If that person is a despicable human being otherwise, then the legal system can deal with them when they are out of office. But for now, SAVE US.
Thats the beauty of free speech.......And unfortunately there is good and bad in that ideaollogy (hope I spelled that right)..............Anyway I get the humor in it...........doesn't mean I have to like it though...........This world is falling apart and this country and the world needs LEADERSHIP
So many people say they want to protect the First Amendment (until someone disagrees. Then they're "American," or "anti-religion" or "unfair to divorced people" or whatever).
Newt Gingrich was in congress from 1979 to 1999. He left congress through a door opened by the House Ethics Committee, paying a $300,000 fine as part of a settlement to avoid a full hearing on one of the 84 ethics charges filed against him. It appears he used tax-free charitable contributions to fund a non-charitable college course he was teaching .
Gingrich first married in 1962. He was 19. His wife, 26, had been his high school math teacher. They were married while he attended college and Graduate School (MA and PhD). They had two daughters but divorced in 1981 while she was being treated for cancer.
His second wife had been his mistress a few years. Married in 1981, they divorced in 2000, just after he resigned from Congress.
His third wife worked for Congress and is twenty-three years younger than he. They were having their affair about five years when Gingrich divorced #2, and while, as Speaker, he presided over the Clinton/Lewinski investigation.
According to Wikipedia, “In a 2011 interview…Gingrich addressed his past infidelities by saying, "There's no question at times in my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."
My feeling regarding this philandering passionate patriot and whining workaholic is, “No Newts.”
It brings a tear to my eye, the fact that a man could love his country so much that he'd be driven to infidelity. It's a beautiful, touching story. Now Clinton, on the other hand, did it just for physical gratification. What a scoundrel.
Scott, let me preface this by saying I'm not necessarily a Newt supporter but your summary of Newt's life begs the question - is he the best qualified candidate to lead us out of the financial mess our country is in today. I for one could not afford to deal with numerous wives, mistresses, etc. I just don't have the skill set nor financial acumen to do this. Apparently Newt does. Think of all the countries the President has to deal with on a day to day bases. Instead of countries, Newt will view each country as another wife and manage them like he managed his wives. He would manage the finances accordingly. Newt just might be worth a second look.
You might be onto something Jaskie. Those who worked with Bill Clinton found that he had an extraordinary talent for being able to handle multiple tasks at once. He also was able to do this in his private life too. Maybe we do need another serial cheater to bring back peace and prosperity!
Like I said in an earlier post Steve, I just want someone who has the skills to resolve our country's problems. After that, let the legal system and the historians deal with them. We need someone that is creative and skillful enough to get America moving in the right direction once again. If that person happens to be a hypocritical, bigoted, biased, flim flam man - does it really matter if he can save the country when no one else can?
But he can't save the country if he is a flim flam man because a flim flam man spouts deceptive nonsense and that is not what can right a country. Newt was for action in Libya until Obama worked with NATO on the recent military action. That is not creativity.
He may say a few clever things from time to time, but add in the comments about opening up orphanages and eliminating child labor laws and we start to veer off into Crazytown. He shouldn't get credit just because he's not the craziest in the bunch.
Jaskie......Agreed. Actually if you look at Europe, mainly France, they keep their "affairs" out in the open and the politicians are judged in these liberal societies on how well they do their job. Most of them are expected to have a mistress. Wonder how that's working out for them.....but, that's how they do it there.
Chuck, on behalf of PETA I'd like to object to your most offensive hornet nest analogy. Advocating displacing hundreds, if not thousands of these majestic, buzzing insects from their home is irresponsible and just plain mean.
Don't be starting up with PETA now..........thats another issue............I despise people who abuse animals.............my hornets nest will definitely get your attention
I am glad I work all day rather than going back and forth like this!!! But....a couple "observations".....ever notice when a liberal says they "personally don't care", or, "I could give a rats%$#%", or something to these effects, there is always the....."BUT", and they give their reason to pounce at a date to be announced! Where were you all when John Edwards affairs were discovered by a news organization called "The Enquirerer"...sp?...Where was CNN, MSNBS, CBS, ABC, the NY Times, ETC. The media always has its head in the sand when it is a liberal. And don't give me the moral high ground as leaders SHOULD ALL have a bit of a moral compass and they imply this when they run for office paid for by the people. Or maybe nobody really give a hoot, right. After all, John Edwards wasn't a hypocrit or Bill Clinton. Just liars. "I did not have relations with that girl".....but because he was not conservative the media went after the girls thatw ere accusing them! Ha. Ther's your hypocrisy!
To Chuck.....I know you give the "token" amount of humor to liberal's as well.....BUT, how about a scoreboard. Can you back up your implication that you are equal in partisan humor? Not that I really give a big behind about it, BUT..........just sayin. Give us a scoreboard for 3 months worth!!!!
Um, Edwards' affair caused him to be ruined as a future political candidate. Weiner and Spitzer were forced to resign and Clinton was impeached by the House. On the (R) side of the fence, Ensign, Sanford and Larry Craig were allowed to finish out their terms and Gingrich enjoys new life as a republican hero. So, your "Liberal" media argument is a bust.
And please dont lecture us about working. Some people get Internet on their phones these days. Check it out.
@ Scott: Are you trying to be funny? Politifact will not tell me the scoreboard on democratic versus republican cartoons run by Chuck..... And I was asking Chuck as he probably has the stats at hand.... unless you want to go back and count them yourself. I think you are a little sensitive.
@ Steve......thank you for making my point about angry liberals when confronted. I never LECTURED anyone about working. Re-read the post and tell me where I even implied I was lecturing. You must be one SENSITIVE guy.......really. I only was staing I preferred that over this, but I new someone would tell me what I think!!! Hilarious!!!! People get internet on their phones. WOW. That is hilarious too but has absolutely NOTHING To do with my comment!!!! You are a funny, sensitive guy. Or should we say "Passionate"....LOL.
@ Steve (again)...you are funny. There is no personal attacks. You need to re-read AGAIN. Only stating my observations on how the left handles commentary when it is not biased to the left. State the personal attack please. I said angry liberal, that is a generalization. Unless you take that personally, then sorry. Imust have struck a nerve. As far as the rebuttal goes, I have no comment and don't intend on getting in a p'ing match with you. You are entitled to your opinion and/or commentary. As Chuck said, I could really care less! But keep up making me laugh, but don't twist the accusations (ie, personal attacks!?!?!, scoreboard?!?!?!/). I guess you are passionate as I said. That may be personal but certainly not an attack. Later lib.
@ Steve regarding results of media and politicians having affairs. Media portrayal and end result are two different things so I'm afraid bust is not correct. But I actually agree with you...none of these SOB's, whether Repub or Demo should be there. My POINT was they have a responsibility to the American people. The only point regarding the media is they will not "break" the story, as the case of John Edwards, unless another media organization breaks it first and they are forced to do coverage. ie. Edwards = ENQUIRER" (LOL), Spitzer was broken by FOX, and Weiner was broken by Andrew Biebart leak.....the left media ignored it until they had to report it or lose another portion of their viewers and listeners (which they are not in a position to do). Clinton was incestigated but essentially unscathed. Finishe dout the Presidency. The media does not determine who finishes their term etc. Their is your rebuttal. Please don't get take it personal. Typically I wouldn't respond but this whole post of your I am referring to misguided on all points. Not personal, not lecturing, not saying the media determined the fate of these politicians. You are way off base on ALL YOUR POINTS.
Whatadeal, Such anger in you. All cap word placements in your caps. Referring to people as sensitive (all caps), hilarious (all caps), making an argument, then saying you refuse to go back and forth. Branding people as liberal ("Later Lib"). Demanding a cartoon artist produce a scoreboard for you, then claiming someone else asked for it. You're making the case against yourself with your personal attacks and hate.
Oh. PS. Since I will be working during the day I'll bet this will be the stick in bee's hive. A liberal onlyalways tells other people when they are wrong, quite emphatically I may add, but who really gives a rats &$^%$#. BUT they never accept analysis or criticism on their points without spewing hate, anger, or a "you started it". This column is a little more civil but try reading the posts on Yahoo sometime. Those liberals are really mean spirited and hateful to anyone who doesn't agree. "Personally I don't care one way or another". It's just an "observation" from my point of view.
@ Chuck...I know you say personally you don't care, but below the cartoon it says...."Chuck's opinions are his own and do not represent the opinions of Patch". Is this your opinion or what does "The "Patch" mean by this (your opinion), when you imply it is not your care? Opinion.......Does anyone see the humor in that? It is a funny column! I see humor in it! I do!
Seems he forgot that ex-lawmakers shouldn't be lobbyists for a set period. If it looks like a lobbyist, and walks like a lobbyist and talks like a lobbyist and gets paid like a lobbyist, chances are it's a lobbyist. --Just sayin'...
@ Steve...C/mon my liberal friend. Get it right. CAPS are not anger, it is shouting. And you don;t have to be angry to shout. You just can't seem to get it right can you? And I am not demanding the cartoon artist give the score. Requesting. I dpon't demand, but you keep trying buddy. The artist is the only one who can count them. He said that he kept them equal, I asked for a count. He hasn't provided it and may not. That is up to him. I only implied it is lopsided. But hang in there and keep trying because at this point you haven't scored yet on this back and forth yet and I am still laughing. Not at the artist, but you!!!!!
@ Bob B. Yeah, maybe, and I think that explains some of it, however, it "seems" to be lopsided. That is why I asked for a scoreboard. And since it is lopsided I really doubt that the whole slew is included. Most of the catrtoons focus on 3 or 4 of the leaders, not all 10, so maybe we need a standard deviation applied. Maybe Chuck's scoreboard could breakdown the by candidate so we could also see who is the butt of the political humor the most! I'll bet the winner is.........
@ 5th grade Steve! HA...you challenged me and I became enraged? What planet are you on anyway. I admitted that CAPS = shouting, but I did not say I was shouting....the reason I used caps was to make a point to you because you missed it everytime. I am not angry, I am not enraged. But if you want to make the world think I am angry because I used CAPS, have at it. That is just plain ridculous and chilish. I think your little game is to try and prove a point at any means. Even making up stuff. Have at it. You act like a 5th grader going "he started it, he said it first...he shouted at me". Try stomping your feet and get on the bus....maybe the short one... You are hilarious and have provided me and my friends at work a lot of laughs. Fellow libs usually come to one anothers aid by now. Since no one has helped you they probably feel you are unworthy, stupid, or not a real lib. Especially since you called me a lib ...LOL, oh I mean lol.....Heyt, watch the use of your exclamation points. People will think you are getting to excited........Thanks for the excitement Stevie.....hope you make middle school.
Man whattadeal, you are foaming at the mouth to get the last word. I don't care about your work buddies and I don't need anyone to jump in to defend me. I made points and you spent all day shouting and attacking and you're still boiling over with rage, but you never got around to debating the points. You just made bogus generalizations about who broke what story first.
But hey, I don't want you to get all Jared Loughner on anyone, so I'll let you jump back in with another last word. Punch away until you're tired. I'm done with you.
Trust me pal. You need defense because when it come to brains and thoughts you are UNARMED (point, not shoutring, angry, enraged!!!). You are funny but that is unintentional! The tone of your posts show you are the frustrated one attacking that won't give up. You are the one wanting someone to responsd. As far as who broke the story first?????? Not even sure what the hell you are talking about but I do know you shouldn't be smoking that stuff! Thanks for the amusement.
With this comment at this time there are 79!!!! You are a really good artist, no matter what you draw. I bet anything you draw would be great and funny, if you wanted it to be... Anyway, you're a wonderful artist!

One last comment. William, you say Ron Paul cannot win. Either you don't agree in the American Dream that most parents tell their children as they are growing up "This is America and you can be anything you want to be if you try hard enough" or you know for a fact that Ron Paul does not have an American birth certificate. Which is it?

Ron Paul IS my choice...........but he will get us shot up with his foriegn policies, these countries who want us burned off the face of the earth don't play around unfortunately......that is why he probably won't be elected.........He is a straight shooter and he can fix a lot of the problems we have in this country........As for Newt personal attacks are inaproppriate even if they are in the form of a cartoon.

Robyn Vickers
8:31 am on Monday, November 28, 2011

Oh and look, Republicans are bashing him for it in a much harsher way than a little cartoon on a local online news site. LOL http://evangelicalsformitt.org/2011/11/the-wives-of-newt-gingrich-do-they-matter/

Uncle Jesus
2:49 pm on Monday, November 28, 2011
But he can't save the country if he is a flim flam man because a flim flam man spouts deceptive nonsense and that is not what can right a country. Newt was for action in Libya until Obama worked with NATO on the recent military action. That is not creativity.
He may say a few clever things from time to time, but add in the comments about opening up orphanages and eliminating child labor laws and we start to veer off into Crazytown. He shouldn't get credit just because he's not the craziest in the bunch.
