What Would You Improve in Plainfield in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for Plainfield, what would it be?

More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.

As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Plainfield to make it an even better place to live?

What road projects would you like to see come to fruition? What new businesses are on your wish list for Plainfield? Do you have any ideas for how to improve Plainfield events? What is one thing you would improve in 2013?

Tell us in the comment section below or blog about why you love living here!

The semis comming from Northbound 59, turning left onto Lockport St., are confused thinking that Lockport is still Rt30. There needs to be a Sign on the mast arm at the 59/Lockport intersection facing the NB traffic with an arrow pointing North for Rt 30.

Traffic lights...e.g improve timing on some of the units- 143/Rt 30 / 135/Van Dyke. This is a great Village to live in and not much should change.

Negative on the Starbucks , Portillo's at RT 59 & 135th would bring in more money to Plainfield . Right now Plainfield is spending money in Shorewood & Naperville for this great taste in food ...

I would love to see some "Adult Supervision" in the timing of traffic lights, and allow right turns onto RT-59 from the exit next to Chase Bank in the mall where Mijers is at. No one pays any attention to the red arrow when making a right turn onto 59 when clear of traffic.

More signage on south bound 30 and patrols of Lockport St from 126 to 59. I am frequently behind tractor trailers on south bound Rt. 30 that continue east bound down Lockport st. Our streets will be trashed in no time if this is allowed to continue. While patrolling.. keep an eye towards the cab of the truck, most if teaser guys are still using their hand held phones while driving, which is illegal for truck drivers and can raise nice revenue with the huge fine that comes along with it!

I wish they would patrol the schools parking lots and fine the people on their cell phones. Not only is it against the law to even text on school property, it is so dangerous. Are they gonna wait until a child gets wiped out by a testing parent to do something about it? My daughter goes to Ridge elementary and the first day at pick up the monitors walked around during and told everyone no cell phones....and they haven't since. It has become a real problem. Especially the late moms who come flying into the parking lot trying to catch up while talking away on the phone.

I agree with you. I drive a school bus, and I see so many cell phone violations every morning, it makes me sick. Then when you add speeding cars through the school zones, and illegal left turns are putting our children at risk. School zones need to be better enforced. This is not just a problem for Plainfield Police, but also for Joliet Police at Plainfield schools-depending on the schools address. Just drive down Bronk Rd. at 8:45 any school day, and they could make a fortune in writing tickets.

People have died because of some idiot chatting or texting while driving. What part of that doesn't our clowns in Springfield understand? It has been proven that texting has the same effect as a 1.0 alcohol level. Our so called leaders in Springfield are only concerned about votes, and not about the safety of people. So many people injured or killed by senseless chatting and texting. Springfield, IL, land of idiots.

Make marijuana possession into only a fine instead of jail time, it'll free up cops and bring in revenue.

Can you imagine the amount of the revenue that could be had in just the taxes alone if they just legalized it?

Wouldn't that be nice?!? Funny tho how Plainfield has a way with driving businesses away rather than to entice them to stay or create incentives on coming here. Ahhh, just go to Naperville!

A gas station at the southwest corner of Lockport Street and Route 59 would be a start to help business downtown.

It would be nice to see more businesses... starbucks in the downtown area maybe corner of 59 and 30 where the old gas station was. A Trader Joes would be awesome around 30 and 135th. And someone needs to bring back the small town grocery store!!
