Southwest Plan Opinion

A follow up to 11/26 Meeting Re: SW Plan. Why do we look at housing as a primary action in the development of the future Renwick corridor? If high property taxes are a real concerned shouldn't we be in the process of pursing taxable based corporations to anchor this growth corridor with Distribution/Manufacturing/Commercial/Retail outlets? Job producing endeavors should lead busting bungalows. You can't buy a house if you don't have a job.

The presentation given on 11/26 is presumably a smoke screen created by a developer who builds houses. Don't be fooled by "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts" statements ; between the lines ; the check's in the mail ; In my opinion this was presented for monetary gain by a developer who wants to build houses--not jobs(sans construction).

Ed, The fact that a developer was even present at what was supposed to be the Villages presentation of the updated Comprehensive Plan strikes me in the wrong manner. I thought the plan defined what type of development the Village works towards, not developers dictating what the Comprehensive Plan should be based on their desires. Your comment and opinion appears to be right on point in this post from where I'm sitting!

@ Pfld Res,
I agree--don't we have enough houses at this point in time? I can drive around town an site hundreds of houses that are for sale and unoccupied. We need Job producing projects and improved infrastructure BEFORE the next housing boom restarts. These developers see "Cheap" land with utilities in place as a Christmas present for THEIR gain-I don't believe for a second that these guys are trying to help guide the future of our next open spaced growth corridor--Renwick Rd.
We have the opportunity to mirror the Aurora / Naperville @ Fox Valley area. Let's call it The Yorkville / Plainfield Corridor. Renwick Road, to points West, is a clean piece of paper waiting for the big boys to jump in. Renwick Road will be another Rt 59 in 20 years. Jobs before houses!!

@Ed, Kudos to you for taking your own time to always attend the open houses and meetings as they relate to the future transportation needs of Plainfield. I have noticed you attend all these meetings and events. In another four months, you will be able to bring your expertise to the Plainfield Township Highway Commissioners Office. Your knowledge in highway construction along with your commitment to the Village will be welcomed with open arms.
