DESCRIPTION:The C.W. Avery Family YMCA is offering two American Red Cross
  lifeguarding classes this month at its Plainfield location\, 15120 Wall
 in Drive. Designed for residents looking to be certified lifeguards in t
 ime for summer employment\, class participants will learn professional l
 ifeguarding responsibilities\, including first aid\, CPR for the profess
 ional rescuer and AED. Classes will be offered from May 21-25\, and May 
 29-June 2.\nParticipants must be at least 15 years of age by the end of 
 the class\, and attendance at every class is mandatory. Participants mus
 t be able to swim 300 yards continuously as well as tread water for two 
 minutes using their legs only. Participants must also be able to complet
 e a timed 40-yard swim\, which includes: swimming out 20 yards\, surface
  diving down to the deep end of the pool and retrieving a 10-pound brick
 \, returning to the surface and swimming 20 yards back to the starting p
 oint with both hands holding the brick\, and then exiting the pool witho
 ut the use of a ladder or steps in under one minute and 40 seconds. If s
 wimmers cannot meet these requirements\, they will not be allowed to tak
 e the course.\nClasses will meet from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.\, unless otherwise n
 oted on the first day of class by the instructor. Cost is $250 for Full 
 Members of the Greater Joliet Area YMCA\, $300 for Program Members and A
 WAY Members and $350 for Non-Members. Lifeguarding manuals\, certificati
 on cards and CPR masks are included in the fee. All participants must co
 mplete the pre-requisite swim test before the first day of class.\nFor m
