Disappointment, Little Surprise Over Failed Baci Building Deal

Plus, headlines you might have missed.

Plainfield Patch readers didn't seem surprised to learn that a Chicago restaurateur's plans to rehab the former Baci restaurant building have been scrapped. Chef Darryl Sams said he wanted to open an upscale steak and seafood restaurant in the downtown Plainfield building by Thanksgiving — an ambitious plan, considering the scope of work needed on the more than century-old structure.

Readers reacted on Facebook and on the site to express dismay — but not much shock.

  • Scarlett R.: That place needs major investment money to get it decent again. Not surprised.
  • Samantha S.: Was worried dinners would be to pricey and the place would need to close in a year like a lot of other places.
  • Matt E.: HUGELY disappointed! I'm not sure the "New Orleans" theme was the best idea with Moe Joes across the street but I really wanted a solid steak and seafood restaurant.

Are you surprised the deal is dead? What kind of business do you think should open in the vacant building?
