Get Your Kids Ready for Back-to-School; Watch Out for Construction, Crossing Closures

Get organization tips for back to school; be aware of area road work on Tuesday.

The Plainfield Public Library will help families prepare for the start of a new school year with a seminar at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The event will help empower middle and high school students to achieve academic success with organizational skills. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend together. Register at 815-327-2515 or www.plainfieldpubliclibrary.org.

Railroad crossing takes effect


The Lockport Street railroad crossing will be closed starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday as Canadian National completes work on the crossing east of Hartong Street. The crossing is scheduled to be reopened by 4 p.m. Thursday.

Other traffic news


IDOT is beginning intersection channelization this week at Route 59 and Pasquinelli Drive/Andrew Road.

The work includes reconfiguring the turn lanes on Route 59 immediately north and south of Pasquinelli Drive/Andrew Road. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction through the work zone with temporary turn lanes striped. The contract calls for the project to be completed within 25 working days, according to the village.

Cruise Night returns


Though the National Weather Service calls for a chance of rain Tuesday, the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce's Cruise Night is scheduled to take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Plainfield.

Tuesday's theme is "American Muscle/Pony Cars." 

The final Cruise Night of the year is scheduled for Sept. 3.
