Tuesday Declared 'Ravina Thakkar Day' in Plainfield
A day before her 14th birthday, a dream came true for a Plainfield teen battling cystic fibrosis: "The Adventure of a Lifetime," the first book by Ravina Thakkar, was officially released. Not only that, but Tuesday was also declared "Ravina Thakkar Day" by Plainfield Mayor Mike Collins. Congratulations, Ravina!

Fundraiser Benefits 'Westyn's Wish' Toy Drive
Got plans Monday night? Head over the American Legion in Joliet for a "Quarter Mania" fundraiser (click the link for all the details) to benefit Westyn's Wish. Toy drive was founded by Sarah and Jeff Genens of Joliet in honor of their late son; through the effort, the couple is providing holiday cheer to kids stuck in the hospital at Christmas.

'Santa Paws' Event to Raise Money for America's VetDogs
A Dec. 15 fundraiser in Crest Hill will raise money for an organization that provides guide dogs to injured veterans. Can't think of a better cause than that!

Plainfield Student to Dance in 'The Nutcracker' with Joffrey Ballet
Thirteen-year-old Alyssa Bulin of Plainfield and 10-year-old Scarlett Nash of Channahon will perform the famous ballet, running Dec. 6 to 28 at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago.
