Ribbon-Cutting Set for Downtown Pedestrian Bridge

The Sept. 26 event celebrates the new walkway, which was funded with a $1 million state grant.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the downtown Plainfield pedestrian bridge over the DuPage River will be held Sept. 26, nearly three months after the long-awaited span opened to the public.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. on the Lockport Street bridge, according to a release issued by the village. It will be attended by the mayor, village board and members of the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation and Steering Committee and is open to the public.

The ADA-compliant walkway/bridge was built almost entirely with a $1 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
