Wandering Dragon Settles Into New Location

The Plainfield game shop now has three times the space.

Just more than a year after opening, The Wandering Dragon Game Shoppe has a new home.

Owner Kevin Martin said the store is settling in to its new location at 15032 S. DesPlaines St. The shop, dedicated to hobby gaming, has been in the new spot since September.

The move came after School of Rock Plainfield bought the former Steiner building over the summer. The Wandering Dragon, which was located on the second level, had to find a new space as the music school expanded in August.

As luck would have it, Martin found that the Des Plaines Street location was available, allowing the shop to stay in downtown Plainfield.

"We love it here," Martin said. "We were trying since day 1 to get a space down here," he told Patch last year.

The new shop also has about three times more space as the old location, according to Martin.

"We definitely have room to do whatever we want to do," he said. The shop, which hosts game demos, tournaments and RPG nights, previously only had one game room.

Now, in addition to the large game room, there are seven individual rooms that can be used for gaming or rented out for private events. There's also a VIP room that can be rented for events and birthday parties, Martin said.

The new Wandering Dragon also boasts a small selection of snacks and drinks, and Martin said he is working with other Plainfield businesses to allow patrons to order outside food and drinks during gaming events.

"There's something going on pretty much every night" at the shop, he said.
