Advanced Endoscopy Conference for Nurses & Associates Oct. 12

The Advanced Endoscopy Center at Silver Cross Hospital will host a program on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 for nurses, associates and technicians who are interested in increasing their knowledge of advanced endoscopy.  The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox, IL.  The new hospital campus is conveniently located at I-355 and Route 6.  Registration information is available at www.silvercross.org or by calling (708) 499-5678, ext. 184.

 

Dr. Kamran Ayub, Medical Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Center at Silver Cross Hospital, will discuss indications, limitations, potential complications and techniques for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and ablation of Barrett’s Esophagus.  He will also discuss the role of endoscopy in the management of gastrointestinal bleeding.  Dr. Ayub will be joined by Michelle Shaban, RN, BSN, CGRN, who will discuss the nurse’s role in advanced endoscopy.

In addition, participants will observe and analyze several live case demonstrations for common bile duct stones, biliary obstruction, abnormal CT of pancreas and pancreatic cysts, Barrett’s Esophagus, and EUS. Participants will also take part in hands-on workshops to learn the technique of wire exchange, stent placement, balloon dilatation, sphincterotomy, and more.

This activity will provide 7.7 contact hours.  Silver Cross Hospital’s Nursing Education Department (OH-254, 11/1/2013) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.  Criteria for successful completion include attending the entire event and submission of a completed evaluation form.

 

Continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be provided.  The course fee is $30.  Checks should be payable to Silver Cross Hospital and sent to Southwest Gastroenterology, 9921 Southwest Hwy., Oak Lawn, IL 60453, Attention Taylor Aldridge.  Registration will be accepted through Oct. 7, 2013.
