Community Corner

Friends of The Plainfield Park District

My name is Kurt Beutler and I am the President of The Friends of The Plainfield Park District Foundation and a member of the Foundation for over 8 years. We are a non-profit corporation that has been assisting the Park District in its mission since 1985. With all the chaos that has been happening with the Plainfield Park District in the last year, I wanted to take a moment to explain to the Plainfield Community what the Foundation’s mission and purpose is. Our mission is as follows, The Friends of the Plainfield Park District Foundation will work to improve the quality of life in the Plainfield area by assisting in the preservation of open space and enhancing recreational programs in the Plainfield Park District for people of all ages to enjoy. The Foundation is independent of the district and manages its own funds and activities.  Every year we hold fundraising events like our Wine & Beer tasting event which is taking place May 10th this year. The funds that we receive from our events get donated back to Park District programs. Our biggest donation (normally over $5000.00) is the assistance program which allows less fortunate children to participate in Park District activities. Another main donation we make is for the children’s Easter Egg Hunt (where we donate over $1000.00) that allows the District to purchase new eggs and prizes for the event. The foundation also purchased a horse for the Equestrian Center a few years ago. I am extremely proud of the fact that we were able to hold the donated funds from the Kledzik baseball tournaments until the district was ready to utilize them for their designated purpose which resulted in a new baseball field (in honor of Joey) at Renwick Park. These are just a few things that the Foundation does that helps the entire Plainfield Community and we are successful because of the support we get from the GREAT community of Plainfield. I ask that you continue to support us in our endeavors like our Wine & Beer event that is fast approaching and feel free to reach out to us through the Park District to become a member of the Foundation or for more information about our upcoming events.
