New Fitness Studio Strengthens Monarch Landing's Culture of Wellness

Monarch Landing Independent Living Community in Naperville, IL, is adding a third tier to its burgeoning health and wellness facilities:  a group fitness studio to augment the existing fitness  and aquatic centers.  Scheduled to open in August 2013, the studio will accommodate the ever increasing number of participants in Monarch Landing’s current fitness spaces.  “Health and wellness is a priority and a philosophy at Monarch Landing,” said Wellness Manager Tony Galvan.  “That tone is set on the front end, before residents even move in.”

Accommodating a variety of additional programs and classes for a greater number of participants, the new fitness studio will allow residents to exercise and thrive together, enjoying all facets of holistic well-being.  “The group aspect of the studio benefits not only the physical part of total health, but the social and intellectual components as well,” said Galvan, noting that, because classes are pre-scheduled and on-site, members are more likely to attend and feel a greater sense of accountability to their fitness plans and to fellow participants.  “There’s also a lot to be said for results,” Galvan added, as what keeps people committed to a fitness regimen is not only improved appearance, but, particularly among seniors, gains in strength, cardiovascular capability, and longevity.

“Seniors have a vested interest in health and well-being,” remarked Galvan who has been on staff at Monarch Landing since it opened in 2006.  “They are looking to enhance the quality of their lives and interact better with their grandchildren.  At Monarch Landing, everything is all right here for residents, and motivation is high.”  According to Galvan, approximately 75 percent of the Monarch Landing community is involved in a fitness-based program.

Led by dedicated instructors and overseen by Galvan and fitness specialist Shannon Denny, Monarch Landing fitness offerings are based on residents’ interests, suggestions, and health profiles. “If numbers in a particular class remain steady, we’ll keep that class, and there is no limit to what can be added,” he said.  Right off the bat, new group classes will be added to kick-start the imminent opening of the studio.  It’s going to be a fun, inviting environment; one that I’m very excited about.”
