PJWC MAKING A DIFFERENCE

PLAINFIELD, IL, January 29, 2014– Just over 5 years ago, the Plainfield Junior Woman’s Club was founded, and began making a difference in the community through their volunteer service.  What started as a group of five has now become an organization of 52, continuing to make a mark in the lives of others, raising over $70,000 for various charities, primarily benefiting women and children.

In their fifth year of service, the group has thrown their support behind a number of worthy causes.  Back in November, the women provided lunch to the Daybreak Shelter in Joliet, preparing and serving food to those in need.  Later that month, members participated in a pillowcase project for a local shelter…decorating pillowcases with bright colors and fabrics to make them more kid-friendly, to create a warmer environment for children going through a difficult time in their life.   For Thanksgiving, the group donated and delivered food for Creekside Cares, a local food program that helps students of District 202 facing economic hardships.

December brought even more opportunities, starting with adopting families for the holidays.  PJWC collected gifts for 5 different local families, to make their Christmas a bit more special.   They lent a hand to Shop-With-A-Cop – an initiative that helped 36 local kids find and purchase gifts for their families.  Women from the club volunteered at a basketball game to raise money for the event, and helped wrap presents once they were purchased.  Members also donated sports balls to the Jarrett Payton Foundation, contributing basketballs, footballs, and other equipment for use by inner city kids sports programs.  And the women returned once again to Creekside Cares, this time helping to pack and deliver Christmas Breakfast boxes.

This month, PJWC stepped in to donate clothing, school supplies, toys and gift cards to a local family whose home was destroyed by a fire.  Their charitable efforts continue through a pop-top-tab drive, which will be used to help benefit families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, while their child is in the hospital.

Their biggest fundraiser, however, is yet to come.  On April 4th at 7pm, the group will host the PJWC Spring Fling, Casino Night.  This event, held at the Whitetail Ridge Golf Club, will benefit Creekside Cares, Joliet Area Community Hospice Corporation Pediatric Division, CASA of Will County and Children’s Research Foundation.  Tickets are $40 a person and will include a buffet, 2 drinks, and $5,000 in pretend playing chips for casino games.  Auctions and raffles will be held throughout the night.    If you are interested in purchasing tickets, please contact the group at PJWCIllinois@gmail.com.  And if you’d like to get involved with the club, go to http://plainfieldjuniors.com
