Plainfield Park District's Van Horn Woods included in IDNR's Catchable Trout Program

The Plainfield Park District has been selected to participate in this year’s Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Catchable Trout Program. Trout stocking will occur at Van Horn Woods East 17200 S. Frontage Rd. Plainfield. Trout fishing may commence on Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon, when the gates are opened.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reinstated its Catchable Trout Program in 1994. Various lakes and streams are annually stocked with catchable size (10-11 inch) trout in the spring or fall.

“This is the first time that the Park District has participated in the program. We find it very exciting to offer a new opportunity to District residents” said Garrett Peck Plainfield Park District Executive Director.

According to the IDNR website; anglers are prohibited from harvesting trout at any of the stocking sites before the legal opening. To legally harvest rainbow and/or brown trout from any waters that receive catchable trout or hatchery stockings of trout, anglers must have a fishing license and inland trout stamp, unless they are under 16 years of age, blind or disable, or Illinois residents on leave from the Armed Forces. A daily limit of five trout per angler is enforced.

Fishing licenses and inland trout stamps are available at sporting goods stores and other vendors located near the catchable trout fishing sites, as well as IDNR's five regional offices at Sterling, Bartlett, Clinton, Alton and Benton. This program is funded through the sale of inland trout stamps.
