20-Vendor Flea Market this Weekend to Benefit the Library

A mix of goods -- from used items to crafts to foods and cosmetics -- will be sold at the outdoor fair.

Who doesn’t love a good bargain?

And when a market also benefits the community, there’s a double dose of feeling good.

Friends of the will host the second annual Friends Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine, in the parking lot north of the library, 15025 S. Illinois St., Plainfield.

The market will be much larger than last year’s inaugural event and includes more than 20 vendors, from garage sale-type merchants and crafters to consultants from companies such as Homemade Gourmet and Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Ornamental garden designs, candles, handmade greeting cards, jewelry, artwork and books are among the items for sale.

A massage therapist and tarot card reader also will be on hand.

Proceeds from vendor booth rentals will benefit Friends of the Library.

“We take on projects that help to offset the costs of the summer and winter reading programs,” said Barbara Eberling, president of the Friends of the Library. “We also buy specialty things the library doesn’t always have in its budget like an oversized scanner for reading blueprints and making posters.”

Individual vendor fees are $15 for one day or $25 for both days. The fee for consultants from trademarked companies is $30 for one day or $55 for both.
