Charity 5K is Saturday in Plainfield; Expect Road Closings

Plainfield Police are reminding drivers and residents to expect road closures on the north side of town Saturday, April 26, during the Eikon 5K event.

The race is a fundraiser coordinated by Calvary Church in Naperville to help cover the expense of Eikon students who will travel and work in Ethiopia.

The event starts at 9 a.m. at Plainfield North High School, 12005 S. 248th Ave., Plainfield.

Rummers will proceed north on 248th to Commissioners Park in Naperville.  From there, participants make a loop within the park before returning to 248th Avenue and returning to Plainfield North High School.

The following roads will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. on April 26:

  • 248th Avenue between Winterberry Lane and 111th Street
  • 119th Street between Millennium Drive and Van Dyke Road

All roads will remain closed until approximately 10:30 a.m., police said.

Residents and motorists who use 119th Street or 248th Avenue should seek alternate routes on Saturday morning.  Police and Volunteer workers will control traffic along the race route.  Any traffic of a non-emergency nature will be turned away until the conclusion of the race.

Here's an interesting fact; Using Google Earth, the distance around the property of Calvalry Church and the adjacent open field next to it, is exactly 5km.... Can someone remind me why a church that is not even in Plainfield is closing down public roads to hold a fundraiser for its members to travel around the world? Next time, how about letting the church have the churches fundraiser on its own property.
