Donation Site Launched to Help Family That Lost Everything in Fire

Tyler Drive blaze destroyed family's belongings

Stephanie Mohr was enjoying a night in her new home with her fiancé and daughter this November when disaster struck.

A fire in an outdoor chimney breached a firewall and started a blaze in the attic of the family’s home in the 3100 block of Tyler Drive.

According to fire officials, the fire caused about $80,000 in damage to the house — and destroyed most of the family’s belongings.

“We were relaxing and enjoying our new home when all of a sudden the lights started flickering and we ran to go check it out,” Mohr said. The couple quickly discovered the fire, which Mohr said began in the attic attached to 2-year-old daughter Novalie’s bedroom and destroyed virtually all of their belongings.

Since the Nov. 9 blaze, the family has struggled. Mohr said she and her fiancé, Tom, were in the process of buying the Tyler Drive home and had taken prepossession of the house prior to their closing date. Because the sale had not been finalized, Mohr said, the family did not have homeowners insurance.

The sale has since fallen through, Mohr said, and the family is struggling to get back on its feet.

A donation website has been launched to help the family replace some of the things they lost in the blaze. According to Mohr, the family is in need of winter clothing, a bed, and kitchen and bathroom items — not to mention toys for Novalie.

“Everything in her room was destroyed and she may only be 2, but it kills me that she lost everything,” Mohr wrote on the website.
