Fallen Heroes Memorial Coming to Plainfield

Guests at the ’s fifth annual car show will be able to pay tribute to Illinois servicemen and women who have given their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Members of the Patriot Guard Riders will bring the traveling Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall to Plainfield for the event, scheduled for noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at the Moose Lodge, 16310 S. Lincoln Highway.

Bearing the names and photos of more than 270 fallen heroes, the wall is the result of a volunteer protect initiated by Gold Star parents who have lost their children to war.

Moose Lodge Outer Guard Tom McSorley said the memorial wall is funded entirely with donations.

“They don’t charge for anything,” he said, adding guests will be able to make donations to the cause during the July 29 car show.

The patriotic-themed event will also include an appearance by a bald eagle, courtesy of an area wildlife rescue, along with Homes for Heroes, an organization that works to make homes accessible for injured veterans, McSorley said.

The Moose Lodge will be open to the public during the event, with food and drinks available for purchase.

Admission to the car show is free for spectators. Car show entry is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Application forms are available at the Moose Lodge, 16310 S. Lincoln Highway.

The car show will feature cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and more, plus trophies, music, raffles and door prizes.
