Farmers Market Returns to Plainfield

The Plainfield Farmers Market is back, and locals are looking forward to another summer of fresh food.

One sure-fire sign of summer in Plainfield has finally arrived: the .

The market, which is now in its fifth year in its current form, features much more than just fruits and veggies. Booths at this summertime tradition include handmade jewelry, an Avon representative, artisan breads and several other vendors.

“More vendors will be here next week [as well]," said Plainfield business owner Susan Bostanche, who organizes the event. She explained a combination of factors — such as the fact that it's still early in the season and several vendors were out of town — meant some of the vendors had to skip the first week.

The reduced size of the market didn’t stop Plainfield locals from coming out to the market on the first day they could. Plainfield mom Julie Miller as there bright and early with her two kids, picking out fresh fruits and vegetables at one of the local farmers stands.

Miller said it was great to have some place to be able to find good produce that was locally grown, and although it was her first time ever visiting the market, it wouldn’t be her last.

One booth at the market will soon be making a more permanent impression on Plainfield. Fresh produce vendor Peter Rubi will be opening up a store in Plainfield next to on Route 59.

Peter Rubi owner Brandon Graves said the store will carry organic and non-organic fruits and vegetables, as well as other produce products.

Randy Lambert of downtown Plainfield's was selling mixes and dips, as well as cutting boards and other kitchen items. He said he was doing well so far, and was looking forward to the rest of the season.

The Plainfield Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 29 at the southwest corner of Route 59 and Lockport Road. Spots for booths are still available. For more information contact Susan Bostanche at 630-608-7344.
