Flood Warning Issued for DuPage River
Drivers who encounter flooded roadways should turn around and find an alternate route.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the east branch of the DuPage River in Bolingbrook affecting Will County. The warning expires at 2 a.m. Saturday.
"Rainfall amounts reaching between three-quarters of an inch and an inch and a half combined with snowmelt has resulted in rises on area rivers," the NWS said, advising drivers who encounter a flooded roadway to turn around and find an alternative route.
A flood warning is also in effect for the Des Plaines River in Riverside affecting Cook County.
Rising rivers
According to the National Weather Service, as of just before 10 p.m. Thursday, the DuPage River was at about 9.47 feet and had not reached the flood stage of 12 feet in Plainfield, but the east branch in Bolingbrook was at 19.4 feet, very close to the flood stage of 19.5 feet.In Yorkville, a river gauge showed the Fox River at 13.9 feet, just shy of the "action stage" of 14 feet late Thursday. In Montgomery, the river was just below 12 feet; flood level is 13 feet.
