Forest Preserve District Offering Christmas Tree Recycling

Four locations are available to drop off old trees, which will be chipped and used as mulch rather than thrown into landfills.

The Forest Preserve District of Will County submitted this news release:

“Recycle the Holiday Spirit!,” a free Christmas tree recycling program offered by the Forest Preserve District of Will County, will be Saturday, Dec. 28 through Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, with four tree drop-off sites around the county.

Trees can be dropped off at any of the facilities between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Every year, millions of Christmas trees end up in landfills. However, you can give your tree a second life by recycling it with the Forest Preserve District of Will County. All collected trees will be chipped and will be used as mulch on District trails and for landscaping.

Christmas trees can be dropped off in designated areas of parking lots of Isle a la Cache Museum, in Romeoville; Plum Creek Nature Center, in Beecher; the Sugar Creek Administration Center, in Joliet, and Monee Reservoir, in Monee.

Please remove all tinsel, lights and ornaments. Only family trees will be accepted; no commercial trees will be taken.
