Have You Seen Heidi? Pet Rescue Seeks Missing Pooch

Heidi the beagle/dachshund mix escaped on the first day of her heartworm treatment.

A Plainfield-area pet rescue is asking for helping finding a shy foster dog who is in need of heartworm treatment.

Heidi, a 1-year-old beagle/dachshund mix, was recently taken in by Safely Home Canine Rescue in Plainfield, along with six of her siblings. All six have heartworm and are being treated, according to Sue Parse of Safely Home.

"When these guys came into our rescue they were almost feral, it has taken weeks for us to break through to them and they are starting to relax and get to know people are good," Parse said.

Heidi — the shyest pooch of them all, according to Parse — just started her treatment on Tuesday, the same day she broke away from her foster home and ran off. She was last spotted near Camden Circle and Morgan Valley Drive in Oswego at around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Heidi, who is spayed and microchipped, weighs about 20 pounds and has reddish fur. She has a lime green collar and was dragging her pink leash. She also has a St. Francis tag on her collar, Parse said.

"Our hope is someone is looking out for her and guiding her back to us," she said.

"It is so important we get her back to finish her treatment, and then she is required to have a 4 week  'quiet time' of just rest and relaxation," Parse said. "These shots are pretty painful and she now doesn't have any pain killers to help her with the pain."

Because she is very shy and timid, Parse warns anyone who spots her not to call to her or chase her, which may cause Heidi to run in fear.

Anyone who finds Heidi or spots the pooch is asked to call 630-278-0038 or 630-795-9447, or email sue3647@att.net.
