Historic Preservation Chairman Named Grand Marshal of Plainfield Irish Parade

This year's parade is March 16.

The Village Preservation Association has made its pick for grand marshal of the 2014 Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade.

Plainfield Historic Preservation Commission Chairman and Plainfield Historical Society member Michael Bortel will lead the way as the parade steps off at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 16 in downtown Plainfield.

"A former history teacher, Mr. Bortel dedicates countless hours of time in support of preserving Plainfield’s historic resources," the VPA posted on the Irish parade website.

Parade entries are still being accepted, and space is limited. The entry fee is $50 per float; click here to register online or for more information.

Organizers are also looking for parade sponsors (online signup available) and volunteers. Visit the Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade Website for more information, or email Teri Spangler at info@plainfieldirishparade.org.

Parade lineup is at 11 a.m., and stepoff is at 1 p.m.

This year's parade will coincide with two St. Baldrick's fundraisers in Plainfield.
