It’s Almost Plainfield Turkey Drop Time

Donate a frozen bird to help feed local families this Thanksgiving.

It’s a tradition that started more than a decade ago when Julie and Jerry Ford wanted to find a way to give back to the Plainfield-area community.

Now organized by the Plainfield Moose Lodge, the .

Held held the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the annual food collection is now in its 13th year.

Plainfield-area residents are asked to drop off frozen turkeys from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Plainfield Moose Lodge, 165310 S. Lincoln Highway. Non-perishable items to help fill Thanksgiving food baskets are also welcome, along with cash donations.

In exchange for a donation of a frozen turkey, residents are welcome to enjoy a free lunch courtesy of the Moose Lodge.

This year, Moose members are hoping to exceed. The turkeys and Thanksgiving fixings will be donated to the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry, the Wheatland Township food program, We Care pantry in Romeoville and MorningStar Mission in Joliet, along with helping fill Thanksgiving baskets provided by the Moose Lodge.

This year, the Moose hopes to work with local grocery stores to receive a reduced rate per pound to help purchase more turkeys for the money.

Those who wish to help with a cash donation are asked to send checks, payable to the Plainfield Moose Lodge with the note “Turkey Drop,” prior to the Nov. 17 event.

Businesses that donate to the cause will have their names listed on the “Bragging Board” online at www.plainfieldturkeydrop.com.
