Joliet JETS to Practice at Plainfield YMCA

Parents are invited to learn more at informational meetings.

The Greater Joliet YMCA has announced that its JETS competitive swim team will begin practicing that the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, 15120 Wallin Dr., Plainfield, this summer.

"We are hoping that this will provide Plainfield families who have been looking for a competitive swim team experience for their kids with a new option- right in their very own backyard," Greater Joliet YMCA Vice President of Marketing and Membership Carolyn Hamilton said. "The JETS swim team is one of the area’s most historic teams and has been swimming out of our Joliet branches for many years."

There are currently 150 members on the team. Coached by Dave Hedden, the Joliet Y JETS swim team is a year-round competitive swimming program that offers instruction and training for swimmers, ages six and up. Hedden has been with the Jets since 1993, when, at age 11, he started swimming competitively.

To give parents a chance to learn more about the team and meet the coaches, the Plainfield YMCA will host two informational meetings:
  • 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 5
  • 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29
Melissa N Daryl Weppner March 04, 2014 at 12:50 PM
And I'm sure the Plainfield Y will be extremely respectful of the members who pay to use the pool by giving the members 3 of the 8 lanes for their lap swimming as they have in the past.
