MainStreet Kicks Off Summer with Festival, Cruise Nights

Summer Fest will move to a new location at Plainfield Central High School.

Just after Memorial Day — the unofficial summer kickoff for many — is bringing Cruise Nights back to downtown Plainfield.

Tuesday, May 29, is the season’s first Cruise Night, aimed at drawing classic car enthusiasts and their best wheels to downtown Plainfield.

MainStreet Executive Director Susan Erickson said a celebrity guest is expected for the kickoff event.

“Mark Giangreco is our special guest and he’s bringing his ’57 Thunderbird,” she said of the ABC-7 sports anchor.

Cruise Nights are from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from May 29 through Sept. 4.

Summer Fest starts June 2

MainStreets Kickoff to  — once known as Spring Fest and, before that, Strawberry Fest — will start in its new location at , 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, Saturday, June 2.

Guests can expect food vendors, carnival rides, games and and business and craft vendors at the fest, which kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday and closes at 10 p.m. The fest is open from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 3.
