In just a few days, the Plainfield
Historical Society’s CemeteryWalk 2013 will be performed at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on
Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Plainfield Township Cemetery.
The biennial event—which serves as the society’s major fundraiser—has been presented to sold-out audiences since 2004.
Fifth Installment of Plainfield Stories
Over the years, the Plainfield Historical Society has “brought to life” more than 25 interesting lives and events from Plainfield’s colorful past. While some of the stories and names may be familiar, historical research has uncovered many interesting—but forgotten—details.
This year, five stories from Plainfield’s past will be presented. Written by local residents, the stories come to life through the efforts of volunteer actors who have donated hours of time to the performances.
Some of the featured stories have been discovered based on interesting news clippings found in the Society files while others have been based on the curious inscriptions and decorative artistry of the gravestones throughout the cemetery.
The personal stories, based on extensive historical research, reflect historic events and traditions. Appropriate for anyone over the age of 12 years old, the CemeteryWalk 2013 event is planned to be both educational and entertaining.
Historical Musical Entertainment
This year, the musical entertainment also represents Plainfield’s history. At the turn-of-the twentieth-century, Samuel Grundy, a well-loved fiddler and violinist, accompanied his three daughters, each accomplished vocalists. The girls, Clara, Mary and Charlotte, all died tragically over the course of several months in 1902 but the memory of their beautiful voices was recalled for generations. Performing music from their times, the Grundy family will be “brought to life” and will provide musical entertainment prior to each performance.
