Plainfield Listed Among '100 Safest Cities' in U.S.

See what other Illinois towns got a spot on the list.

After being named one of NerdWallet's "Best Places to Own a Home in Illinois," Plainfield can add another accolade to the list.

The village was included on NeighborhoodScout.com's 2014 list of 100 Safest Cities in the U.S., ranking at No. 85.

"Our research reveals the 100 safest cities in America with 25,000 or more people, based on the total number of property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents," NeighborhoodScout said of how it comes up with the rankings. "Crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, forcible rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Data used for this research are 1) the number of total crimes reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city, and 2) the population of each city."

Other Illinois towns to make the list include Palatine (No. 96), Arlington Heights (No. 87), Highland Park (No. 83), Carol Stream (No. 77), Mundelein (No. 56), Glenview (No. 54), Wheaton (No. 51) and Barlett (No. 15).

Plainfield also made the list last year, ranking at No. 51.
