Plainfield Locals Pen, Direct Halloween Play

"Transylvania General," written and directed by Laura and Bill Griffith, respectively, will be produced this weekend in Joliet.

A Plainfield couple has tapped their inner ghoul to write and produce a Halloween comedy gracing a Joliet stage this coming weekend.

Laura Griffith is the writer of Transylvania General, and her husband Bill is directing the production, which will be staged at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park on Joliet's riverfront.

Transylvania General is a family-friendly comedy featuring humans and rod-arm puppets. It's centered around the bizarre happenings and unique characters who work at a hospital run by the infamous Dr. Frankenstein. The events take place the night before Halloween.

This is the second year the play is being performed, but improvisation will ensure there are some new angles, and the actors will interact with the audience in ways that will bring some surprises, producers say.

After the performances, kids are invited to meet the puppets, interact with the cast members and have their photo taken with characters from the show.
