Plainfield Makes List of 15 Fastest-Growing Towns in Illinois

Joliet, Bolingbrook, Lockport also made top 100.

Plainfield is among the fastest-growing towns in the state, according to a study by NerdWallet.com.

The village ranked No. 15, behind towns including New Lenox, Oak Forest and Oak Lawn. The No. 1 fastest-growing town, according to NerdWallet, is Chicago Heights.

The study ranked towns based on population growth, employment growth and income growth from 2009 to 2012.

"It has taken Illinois longer to come out of the recession than other states and unemployment here (8.7% in January 2014) is still higher than the national average (6.6% in January 2014)," NerdWallet wrote. "However, there are many areas throughout the state showing signs of growth."

Other towns on the list include Joliet (No. 53), Lockport (55), Bolingbrook (87) and Romeoville (113).

Last month, NerdWallet named Plainfield one of the top 10 places in the state to own a home.
