Plainfield Man Wins 3 Months' Free Electricity

Joe Janis was among 70 winners of CUB's Energy Saver Program contest drawing.

A resident who signed up for CUB's Energy Saver Program, has won the gift of "free electricty.

Joe Janis' name was chosen in a drawing and he will be reimbursed for the money spent for electricity from June to August 2010, up to a maximum of $500, according to a media release issued by CUB, also known as the Citizens Utility Board.

The drawing was from among people who signed up for CUB Energy Saver, www.CUBEnergySaver.com, a free online service that helps people cut their electric bills. It's run in conjunction with Efficieny 2.0.

“We were thrilled to win, especially since it helped contribute to an updated and more efficient bathroom,” Janis’ fiancee, Laureen Guthrie, said in the release. “We practice efficiency because it’s just the right thing to do.”

What makes the Energry Saver service unique, the release said, is it's rewards program, which lets people track their energy savings and gives them shopping and restaurant discounts if they cut electricity use.

There were a total of 70 winners. Locally, Alan Vertin, of Joliet, also won.
